SEAiq is excellent piloting software. It allows us at MPI incredible flexibility to connect to a variety of AIS and GPS equipment and to navigate on nearly any chart format in the world. Also allows import of DXF files so you can pilot on top of a CAD file, or use the Venture Farther plugin and navigate on top of google earth or MSST photos. SEAiq also used to use CM93 charts, but bowed to pressure from CMAP and took out that support. We stopped upgrading at the last supporting version, so are probably missing other features that have been added since. Wow – that’s cool that you can use personally made charts. I have no idea if iNavX will do that. Showing the new EfficientFlow functions for the SEAiq PPU, to be used by pilots and ferry personnel in the Baltic Sea.

Navigational apps are an area of continued explosion for mobile devices. This is a relatively new to app to me at least. It was mentioned in Practical Sailor by a subscriber. This app has not been recommended by Practical Sailor, yet.

SEAiq

The app includes many of the options provided by other navigational apps plus some interesting things including:

  • Waypoints
  • Routes
  • Tracks
  • Night Color Mode
  • Anchor Alarm
  • Wind and Weather info overlaid
  • Active Captain Interactive Cruising Guidebook
  • Chart measuring tool (VRM/ELB)
  • Wifi-based NMEA and AIS
  • Raster and Vector charts

Macbook air macbook pro. You can try out a free version for 7 days. If you like the app it’s a very reasonable priced app at $9.99 which includes all US charts.

SEAiq

If you are not familiar with Active Captain, they tend to cater mostly to cruisers but have some other interesting options. They have a web site, you can get on their email list and they have an app.
